Internet Sales Tax Failed

A Virginia House of Delegates subcommittee voted down a bill that would have applied the commonwealth’s sales tax to internet businesses which have $10,000 worth of transactions or more in the commonwealth.

The Senate voted in favor of the legislation by a 28 to 12 margin. The delegate subcommittee used a "voice vote" to kill the legislation s so there is no official record of who did or did not support the legislation on the House side.

SUPPORTED TAX: McLean, Great Falls and Reston Sen. Janet Howell (D-32); Centreville, Burke and Springfield Sen. Dave Marsden (D-37); Fairfax Station Sen. George Barker (D-39); Springfield Sen. Dick Saslaw (D-35)

AGAINST TAX: Clifton and Centreville Del. Tim Hugo (R-40); Reston and Herndon Sen. Mark Herring (D-33); Vienna and Fairfax Sen. Chap Petersen (D-34)

The 2010 Session of the Virginia General Assembly concluded on Sunday.

There were so many who jumped up and down.. I was just one of many.. but we all need to join forces to educate these people. People really don't seem to understand exactly *what* these potential laws mean... they *think* we are actually doing the transactions in our states, taking money for Amazon.. and the other thing is they seem to think that AMAZON is the only merchant involved, lol. It is amazing how ignorant people are about this issue. I am amazed at the news articles I have been reading regarding this and CO in particular...
