Hi all!
Just got a email from a friend and iMediaSummit, our buddy Ari Schwartz was giving a presentation and used Hummer as an example. The media buyer for GM was in the audience and asked Ari in front of all the big media buyers in the country, do you work with Hummer and he said no, we don't we're just using it as a example and then when into a public mea culpa. The woman from GM said I want Hummer out of the presentation now. Ari nailed in front of the all the big time media buyers. lol Cheers, Beth |

That's funny Beth.
Though, since I believe that the Hummer is about the most irresponsible product ever offered by a US automaker, perhaps selling this wasteful, useless vehicle via WhenU's spyware might be a good match, at least on the ethical front. Wayne |

Couldn't happen to a better company, IMO.

WhenU's website's demo shows a Mercedes ad popping over a carsdirect.com page. Wonder if Mercedes Benz knows its product is used to promote WhenU scumware?
Wayne Item: The Center for Disease Control reports over 30 million computer uses infected with WhenU. |

Wayne,
Bet they don't -- talk about a company that lives and dies by their brand, no way do they know. Beth |

Too funny.
Surely there was someone there with a video camera? I'd love to see the videoclip. :^) |

Ah. I see WhenU listed as "presenting sponsors" on the box on the right hand side.

The Media folks would bet more then a laugh if they had to spend 10 hours in the last day cleaning the Adware/spyware/computer viruses off a GM executive's laptop. He loaned it to his daughter for 2 weeks and it came back competely trashed with over 250 infections...Windows XP blue screen of death and WhenU -Gator -nCase along with all the kazzaa -WeatherBug and ShopatHome Select crap. He's a neighbor and was going to just throw it away as local computer repair ships said it was DOA...without a new hard-drive
![]() Maybe we should start an Ad campaign offering to collect all the millions of trashed systems and HD's and do fly-over PR drops on the Adware companies offices. Nice photo shoot when the back of a C-130 cargo plan drops a few thousand computers on the Gator/Whenu/TopMoxie headquarters as a charitible donation.

And waste all those perfectly good laptops?
Install Linux on all of them and donate them to the needy. |

Looks like they were actively spreading their poison at AD:TECH as well...
http://www.adage.com/news.cms?newsId=40635 "Even Internet service areas that have undergone a good deal of negative publicity, such as pop-up vendors like WhenU and Claria, reported high-quality traffic at Ad:Tech. Elizabeth Wood, senior account manager at WhenU, complained cheerfully that New York headquarters had to FedEx sales materials because by 3 p.m. yesterday she was cleaned out." Hopefully it was some wise ABW users sneaking past the booth every few minutes to grab a handful of stuff to send it where it belongs - a paper recycling station. I guess they'll also be at AD:TECH Chicago in July and NY i Novemebr, so ABW'ers might want to attend those events, possible in "WhenU are Thieves" t-shirts. :^) "Company: WhenU Booth: 801 Media Contact: Sonya Chawla Phone: 212-239-0000 x246 E-mail: schawla@whenu.com Company URL: http://www.whenu.com Product description: WhenU has created the leading desktop advertising network (DAN) that reaches more than 30 million consumers, providing them with timely, highly relevant offers on their desktop. For sophisticated marketers, the WhenU DAN drives unmatched consumer response by uniquely combining one of the largest Internet audience networks with precision targeting technology. Company description: WhenU is a global Desktop Advertising Network. Through the Company's partnerships with popular software developers, WhenU enables consumers to receive valuable software for free by agreeing to see occasional ads instead of paying a fee -- and without compromising their privacy. For sophisticated marketers, the WhenU desktop advertising network drives unmatched consumer response by uniquely combining one of the Internet's largest audiences with precision targeting technology. WhenU takes advantage of the unique contextual marketing capabilities of the Internet, coupled with consumers' ability to choose their own personal Web experience. Our precision-targeted campaigns are producing dramatic results for over 400 online advertisers." |

Sorry to be dense, but --
Who are we talking about here? Avi Naider, CEO of WhenU (who was likely to be presenting WhenU's products & services)? Avi Naider Bio Or Ari Schwartz, Associate Director of the Center for Democracy and Technology, which has followed the spyware issue (with work of debateable quality -- but that's a topic I'll leave for another day)? Ari Schwartz Bio Or is there some other Ari Schwartz who does work for WhenU? My apologies if this is obvious to everyone else... |
